Why do you need a PAT Testing service?
To meet the requirements of The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, as a business or employer you have a duty to prevent any harm coming to your employees and customers. PAT Testing is one of the ways you can comply with this obligation.
Failure to implement a programme of planned inspection and testing of portable appliances will also have implications should an electrical related injury claim be made. Carrying out regular inspections will give you the confidence you have minimised your risk for an accident and ensures you are meeting your obligations.
Is PAT Testing compulsory?
No. The law simply requires an employer to ensure that their electrical equipment is maintained in order to prevent danger. It does not say how this should be done or how often. Employers should take a risk-based approach, considering the type of equipment and what it is being used for. If it is used regularly and moved a lot e.g., a floor cleaner or a kettle, testing (along with visual checks) can be an important part of an effective maintenance regime giving employers confidence that they are doing what is necessary to help them meet their legal duties.
PAT Testing is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to ensure you have reduced the risk of harm to your employees and also that you have met all of your insurance requirements.
This maybe the first time you are setting up a routine test on your electrical appliance. There is nothing to be concerned about as I can do everything for you.
All you need to know is roughly how many items you have which require testing. Most electrical appliances require a combined formal visual test and inspection every 12 months, but this can vary depending on usage.
I will produce you a quote using the quantity of items you have provided, however should there be more or less items we will amend the invoice you accordingly. Once the PAT Testing service is complete, I will email you a full inventory of items tested along with a PAT Test certificate.
